Spread Love and Joy with Island Batik

This months Island Batik quilt is all about spreading some love. Part of the challenge is sponsored by Accuquilt and I had to use a BOB (block on board) die. I have the Maple leaf die and I was also to use the 8" cube die parts to accent the Maple leaf.

I drew up a plan in Electric Quilt. I then chose fabrics. I love working with the solid-ish fabrics.

I grabbed my Accuquilt Go! to cut the pieces.

Accuquilt makes it really fast to cut accurately!

With the high contrast fabrics, I pieced with both Aurifil's white and red threads. I do not use neutral thread, I match!

I set up the maple leaves and stitched them quickly and easily.

Once I pieced the top, I designed the quilting with ProStitcher Designer. I wanted a modern linear design but with something more.

Here is the quilt in process:

I used Hobbs Cotton/Wool batting. I really love this batting. It has a bit more texture that the Hobbs Heirloom that I normally use. This is my new favorite batting.

When it came time to take the quilt out for it's photo shoot, I was at a loss at what to do this month.

Husband and I decided to use his drone.

The color of the hay in my fields matches with the peachy color of the batik in the outer edges.

I love how the whole quilt came out.

Here is the video:

In the whole scheme of things now, a quilt is such a small item.

It can mean SO much when given.

This quilt will be given to someone who is in need.

I am often asked for a quilt for a charity or for an auction. I try to always have a few on hand that can be readily given at a moments notice. As quilters, this is what we do.

Here is the finished quilt, close up:

Its 2021 and even though things are looking up, we are still in the midst of a Pandemic. We really need to find some joy. The bright colors and act of creating with fabric can bring so much joy in a stressful time. I will continue to create while I am just beginning to start traveling and teaching. The Drone's Eye view is fantastic, my man has a drone and I know how difficult it can be to get a small quilt into the picture, love the distant view, and lovely colours for the quilt.
