Lone Star Blog Hop AND Giveaway!

December is my last (for the time being!) post as an Island Batik Ambassador. I am NOT leaving Island Batik, but moving more towards the designer part of their team. Watch for some FABULOUS things coming up. Lots of secret stitching for upcoming magazines and catalogs!

Anyway, this month is all about the Lone Star. I am seeing this quilt design EVERYWHERE. Scroll to the bottom for the giveaway info.

My surprise bundle from our July shipment included this collection of fabrics:

Bamboo Blooms is a stunning collection.

Once I had the collection, I played with Lone Stars in my EQ program.

I kept putting all the colors in and out until I had a color selection I loved.

Since I am a more modern piecer these days, I put my lone star off center and added solid borders rather than pieced ones.

After I got the design down, I strip pieced the fabrics.

A new rotary blade is key here.

Pin if you must to get the points to line up. I am not a pinner, but on occasion I will use one or two.

I set the star with Island Batik solid black. It is BY FAR the best solid black I have ever used. I have bought bolts and bolts of solid black fabrics, so I know what I am talking about. This is the BEST.

I loaded the quilt on one of my Longarm Quilting Machines, My Handi Quilter Avante.

I am going to give this lap quilt for a new baby. I used Hobbs Heirloom batting inside this quilt.

I am quilting it with the most adorable quilting design by Anne Bright, Sea Turtles For Jade. I LOVE it, and can't wait to use it again.

So Cute!!!!

Add a sturdy machine binding, and the quilt is ready to go.

This was a fun a fairly quick project.

Try a lone star, as it is a hot project these days and fun and easy to accomplish.
