Glacier View Fabrics, designed by Kathy Engle.
And a Giveaway! At the bottom of this post....
The theme this month is Home Dec, and a given set of fabrics. My group of fabrics is Glacier View, by Kathy Engle. It looks like a northwest inspired blue set of yummy batiks. I was a bit stumped at first, the fabric is not purple or brights, my choice of the moment. As I opened up the grouping, I became thrilled at how beautiful the set of fabrics is.
Click on the picture below to take you right to Island batik.
The fabrics have a variety of darks all the way to very lights.
I also thought of where in my house these fabrics would go.
Here is my nice china (the ones I never use but should).
This tree fabric from the collection inspired me.
I thought a dining room picture/wallhanging and possibly a table runner would work beautifully.
I have been doing some embroidery on my long arm, so I pieced a background with the light fabrics and bordered it with the darker fabrics. I ended up using about 15 different fabrics.
I always match my piecing thread to my fabrics. This Aurifil thread is perfect.
These Schmetz needles make stitching on batik so easy.
I chose my embroidery threads to compliment both the blues and the teal tones.
I embroidered some trees with my longarm.
I have never had any tension problems with Island Batiks!
I added 1" squares around with all the dark fabrics.
For the coordinating runner, I looked at a few designs, but decided to let the fabric shine, and used 12" squares of the light fabrics with a sash of the 1" squares and a dark border.
I added quilting that would add dimension to the piece. I use Hobbs Heirloom Batting. It has ALWAYS been my batting of choice.
With this quilting, the runner is MY FAV!
I quilted a bit less obvious on the wallhanging. Wavey windy curvey lines, quilted right over the embroidery.
I let the fabric shine here. I love the snowflakes behind the trees.
I love a machine binding. If I were to stitch the back by hand, it would never ever get done.
And now the pretty pictures!
I staged my dining room, which was pretty much a dumping area for all things not used right now.
I can' believe how well this fabric grouping looks in my dining room!
I have a buffet that is blue/green/ teal and this grouping blends right in!
It also shows my other quilts that I hang in my dining room, in the blues color range.
Fab brunch set up!
The runner also looks great on my buffet:

In the light of current events, we really need to find some joy.
The bright colors and act of creating with fabric can bring so much joy in a stressful time. I will continue to create in the next few months while I am at home not traveling and teaching.

Wow! You are so talented. The trees are beautiful, and the quilting on the table runner is just perfect. Have a lovely day.
I have never seen your work before, and I am in love with it! Is there a place where you explain your process? Are the embroidery designs done on your longarm FMQ, or computerized?
This is beautiful. I love the embroidered trees, and the colors are perfect. The quilting is stunning, too. Brilliant job! The setting is lovely, too.
Those fabrics are perfect on the wall and your table or buffet, and compliment the deep turquoise as well. The other batik fabrics remind me of woven flax mattings, that would have been used by the original settlers here in New Zealand, the red would be dyed from natural dyes, and the green is the colour of so many ferns and trees here.
Love the batik fabrics. they all remind me of the natural world which seems to change ever so slightly every single day. The icy trees reminds me of the starry nights ice skating on a quiet pond and taking in the beauty of the winter sky but the collection has so much more than that vision. Love it so much.
