Tree of Life with AccuQuilt

Island Batik this month had the Ambassadors create a quilt with the Accuquilt die: tree of life.

I, of course, did a bit unusual tree. Who doesn't love orange and purple with a bit of lemon?

I designed the quilt in Electric quilt.

I love playing with the colors and fabrics until I get something fun and striking.

I used the Accuquilt die to cut out the block.

It really creates accurate piecing in a complex block.

I started with some great fabrics.

I keep a printout of my block so I don't get confused as I piece it.

I piece my Janome M7 most of the time. It is super accurate, and just a plain joy to run.

The blocks are pretty quick to piece once you get going.

I set the blocks on point and added a small yellow border followed by a larger orange border.

I then loaded the runner on my longarm quilting machine. I quilt on a HandiQuilter Forte. I used a short piece of my favorite batting, Hobbs Heirloom.

I made this quilt as a table runner, so I quilted it pretty densely. This will allow it to lay really flat when a vase is placed upon it.

I repeated the bright lemon batik for the binding.

I machine stitch my bindings down on my straight stitch Juki sewing machine. If I were to hand stitch my bindings, the quilts would never be finished.

I love a great finish.

Accuquilt suggested we give our quilt to someone who really needs a bit of "Christmas in July" pick me up.

I unfortunately couldn't take pics of the gifting because of a bit of a Covid outbreak. I hope to get pics soon when they are up for a visit.
