Log Cabin Island Batik Beach Balls

The challenge this month was two fold: use the Kismet collection and create a log cabin style quilt. The Kismet collection is a fun bright bold collection. I designed a quilt to really celebrate the bright bold fun colors in the collection.

This is such a fun and bright quilt to make. I love the intense colors in the Kismet line from Island Batik.

I started by choosing my fabrics. I used most of the fabrics!

If you zoom in, you can see the # and names if you want to recreate this yummy color grouping. I used EQ8 to plan my piecing for this off center log cabin.

Electric Quilt has Island Batik fabrics in the fabric libraries. How cool is that? I used a lot of 2 1/2" strips, so the Accuquilt Go cutter made fast work of that.

Once I cut the fabrics, I chose my Aurifil threads.

Once I cut the fabrics, I pieced easily on my Juki straight stitch machine.

These needles are awesome.

Chain piecing makes it pretty quick to piece.

Piecing went really fast! I started planning my quilting. I LOVE the quilting part almost as much as the piecing.

I plan my quilting using Pro Stitcher Designer. I can put a picture of the quilt into the software and draw and design my quilting right on the quilt.

A bit of Stitching in the Ditch, and let the real quilting happen! I use Hobbs heirloom batting almost all the time and this was no different. I think it is the perfect batting.

Love the background fabric!

This was such a fun quilt to piece. It feels like a bit of summer beach time.....maybe this will have to live on my front porch in the summer. This finished at 56" by 56".
